Now that we know what modern calligraphy is, let’s get to know the tools you will need to start working on your calligraphy skills. Since you are a beginner, I would suggest not splurging a large amount of money on tools. And if you are on a budget but still want to furnish your home sweet home of a studio, then have a look at these ideas.  You can start with a straight pen. A good calligraphy that you are comfy to hold on would be a great start. A calligraphy pen generally has a nib and a holder. Different pens though come with different features. There are cartridge pens that allow you to change the colour as per your choice. With this pen, you wouldn’t need the bottles of ink because an ink cartridge will do the job.

Then there is the dip pen, which we know requires a bottle of ink to dip its nib into. There’s nothing like the feeling of dipping the tip of your pen and then start lettering. The last option is the felt tip calligraphy pen. Unlike the other two pens, the felt tip calligraphy pen doesn’t require separate nibs or ink cartridges. It’s just like a typical marker meant for calligraphy. Uh-oh! Did you spill that ink on your clothes? Relax and get rid of the stubborn stains using these easy tips.

If you are going with a typical dip calligraphy pen then you will need to buy the inks bottles. Now, there are a lot of colours of ink to choose from, but you might want to start with the black one since it’s just the beginning. Next, you need to stock up on paper that is good enough for pen and ink so that the ink doesn’t bleed through. You can easily get calligraphy paper pads or you can even start practicing with a sketchbook. As long as the ink is intact you are good to go. Next comes the basic stuff such as the ruler, pencil and eraser. It’s better to have these things nearby. Just keep all your stuff organized and you will be ready to start your practice. Here you will know the quick techniques for keeping things organized.
